The US military is stepping up its efforts to develop new generation cyber weapons. The Washington Post reports they could be capable of knocking down enemy networks, even if they do not have an Internet connection.
The efforts have been accelerated due to the possibility of an American military confrontation with either Iran or Syria, the Washington Post’s report alleges. The Pentagon wanted to use cyber technology during a conflict in Libya but realized that it would have needed at least a year to craft it properly.
“We weren’t ready to do that in Libya,” an anonymous US official was quoted by the Washington Post as saying. “We are not ready to do that now, either.”
